Conceived for the Behind Walls exhibition in Leeuwarden in September 2008, “The Siege” is a project about Sarajevo’s Sniper Alley: a 15-kilometre route connecting the village of Butmir with the city centre.
During the Serbian siege of Sarajevo, thousands of Bosnians walked this route to reach the underground tunnel, which was the only way out of the town and the source of medication, food and weapons.
Under gun machines and shells, under enemy fire.
